MY STORY
I am the product of the Nakba, much like countless others.
My grandparents, bound by love in Haifa, saw their story unfold with twin daughters and my father on the way. The 1948 Nakba forced them to flee to Lebanon on foot, where, amidst the journey, my grandmother gave birth to my father at the border. From this beginning, their family flourished, eventually leading them to the United States.
Growing up, I absorbed this story, holding it close to my heart. Yet, like many Palestinian grandchildren, I sensed a hesitation to discuss our heritage openly.
As I matured, pride replaced hesitation. I realized the impact of these injustices on those who couldn't hear their grandparents' stories from the safety of the states. Instead, they relive the Nakba, facing fear for their lives while we witness it through screens.
This is the essence of Habibi Things. It's more than clothing; it's a platform for embracing our heritage, confronting injustices, and dismissing the discomfort others may feel when we stay true to ourselves.
